Internet poker has come a long way since it first started, and because of a wide exposure to different audiences with different tastes, many varieties of poker rooms and games are available. Omaha is one of these.
Omaha is sometime also called Omaha Hold’em, it is similar in nature to Texas Hold’em, just a different state. No actually, the game does differ a little, in that each player is dealt four cards and has to make the best poker hand possible by using two of these, plus three of the community cards dealt. Internet poker rooms offer this game to all interested players.
The origin of Omaha is unknown, but its first known history recorded was when it was offered to the Las Vegas Golden Nugget Casino by Bill Boyd. At that time it was called “Nugget Hold’em”. Because internet poker is so popular and so many people partake of it, you will find this game available at sites such as Titan Poker and CD Poker.
In land based North American casinos the name “Omaha” may refer to several different games. Commonly there is a Hi-Lo and eight-or-better version, and these are also both found at internet poker sites.
Traditionally it is said that Omaha is a game for “the nuts”, because of the fact that the best possible high or low hand can win, and it often takes “nuts” to win the game in a showdown. As an example of this, the player may use different combinations of cards to draw a flush and a full house.
